On November 12, almost 200 people participated in ASQ’s “Design in Motion: Evolving Perspectives on #Organizing” webinar organized by Michael Y. Lee, Trevor Young-Hyman, and John Eklund. The event featured presentations and reflections on their research from the organizers and from Markus Becker, Kathleen Eisenhardt, Carol T. Kulik, Felipe Massa, Siobhan O'Mahony, Jen Rhymer, Sukhbir Sandhu, Sara Soderstrom, and Klaus Weber. ASQ editors Beth Bechky, Fabrizio Ferraro, and Olenka Kacperczyk provided additional insights, and attendees heard a variety of perspectives on how org design research is evolving and addressing ever-more-complex challenges. Attendees who shared their thoughts about future opportunities for org design research focused on three core areas: (1) #AI, #digital technologies, and new structural #logics, (2) continuous #design, interorganizational #coordination, and #hybrid workforces, and (3) #societal challenges, #inequality, and #theoretical expansion. You can watch the webinar here, and ASQ’s virtual special issue featuring articles authored by the webinar presenters is available here. 🎥 Webinar: https://lnkd.in/g2HxRkiC 📓 Virtual special issue: https://lnkd.in/gBjZ6bGu Our sincere thanks to Mike, Trevor, and John ❤️ for their exceptional efforts to create the issue and the online event, and to all of the scholars who participated and attended. We hope it inspires ideas and conversations that promote creative org design research projects for years to come 💡

New #research alert 💃 Michaël Bikard (INSEAD), Isabel Fernandez-Mateo (London Business School), and Ronak Mogra (INSEAD) analyze scientific paper #citations in #patented #inventions and find #gender #disparity in patent-to-paper citations. They suggest that the difference arises from inventors placing greater value on scientific publications authored by #men compared to those authored by #women. New research alert 😍 In this new article, published in our Volume 70, Issue 3, September 2025, David Dwertmann (Rutgers University), Stephan Boehm (University of St. Gallen - HSG), Kristie McAlpine (Rutgers University), and Mukta Kulkarni (Indian Institute of Management Bangalore) show that #disability is linked to two #creativity outcomes among colleagues of persons with disabilities: #idea #generation and idea #novelty. Linking creativity and disability theory, the findings challenge the view of disability as an organizational burden and conventional views of coworkers of disabled persons 🩼👩🏽🦽➡️💡 Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/dSewdKSS

I am very happy to share that my paper with Michael Pratt, entitled "Reputation on the Line: How the Third-Party Dilemma Shapes Trust in High-Risk Work" has been published at Administrative Science Quarterly! You can see the paper here: https://lnkd.in/e7Ms9_Pj In this qualitative study of linemen, the men and women who construct and repair power lines, we examine the role third parties play in others' trust decisions. Given high reliance on third parties and strong accountability for the information they share, linemen frequently experience what we call the “third-party dilemma”: they feel trapped between desires to keep trustors safe and desires to protect their own reputations when sharing information. We further explain how the information-sharing practices by which they manage this dilemma can ultimately foster lower levels of trust.
